About Me

Hey there! My name is LingLing and I am a plant-based food blogger from Vancouver, BC.

I was vegetarian for 9 years and I am currently thriving to eat a vegan diet. I believe that with the right foods, eating plant-based doesn’t have to be difficult! That’s why I decided to create my own recipes and share them with my friends and family.

My mother taught me how to cook when I was 8 years old. Before that, I would watch her cook delicious food in the kitchen with my grandmother and would often help out in the kitchen. As I got older, I learned more about foods from other cultures and made those foods at home. At first my family wasn’t used to eating exotic food, as they’ve been eating Chinese food for most of their life, but gradually they learned to embrace foods from all over the world. We became quite fond of Mexican and Japanese food!

Coincidentally, I sparked an interest in photography around the same time I learned to cook, so my parents bought me a small and cheap digital camera. It was bright pink and I would bring it with me wherever I went in fear that I would miss the perfect shot! At one point, I put down the camera and forgot about photography, until I started taking photography class at school. Thanks to my amazing photography teacher, I reconnected with my photography passion and the follow year I got my own DSLR camera.

One passion collided with another and that’s how I decided to do food photography! To be completely honest, I didn’t know food photography was a thing until recently, when I made an Instagram account and saw all the amazing food photographers posting stunning images of food. At first I felt intimated by the amount of talent it would take to curate such exquisite images, but with lot’s of practice, I gradually improved. I still have so much to learn, but looking back, I never would’ve thought I would end up where I am.

More recently, I decided to turn my hobby into a “jobbie” (hobby+job). Life is busy and no one wants to spend countless hours doing something and not get compensated. Don’t get me wrong, I love what I do and it brings me a lot of joy, but it also takes an immense amount of time and I would love to get something out of it. Creating this blog was the first step to growing my food blog business and everyday I am learning something new.

I’m so excited to see how “foodbylingling” willl grow and I thank you (yes you!) for your countless support! I would not be able to grow as a business without the support of all of my friends, family and fellow foodies looking for vegan recipes on my blog!

I’m very active on Instagram, so be sure to check out my page @foodbylingling for more pictures and video content! I often create reels demonstrating how I made a recipe so if you’re a visual learner, those reels are for you!

As a food blogger, I offer services for companies that align with my values. If you’re looking to work with me, check out my portfolio/ media kit HERE and contact me via email at foodbylingling@gmail.com .

Thanks for stopping by and I hope you find a recipe or two worth making! 🙂
